          URPHREE,
EDITHA ?, Annice thinks the original pictures  used to make these portraits, which were in large wooden frames, probably were made in the 1850s.  Editha and John Hellums' son, Isham Nuton's daughter, Martha Ann Hellums Bishop, had the pictures and gave them to her grandson before she died.  They had been wrapped in a blanket under a bed for years until one of his children got them out and started trying to find out who they were.  Martha Ann's husband Dock Coleman Bishop settled the estate of I. N. Hellums and the Bishops moved into I. N.'s house.
Help us identify these portraits!  Is the top portrait Editha Murphree, daughter of David Murphree and Jemima Cornelius?  These portraits are published courtesy of Annice Hellums Jenkins who discovered them in the possesion of a Hellums descendant.  The family believes they are portraits of Editha Murphree and her husband, John H. Hellums.  Annice would appreciate our assistance in positively identifying these images.

Annice thinks this may be how the pictures came to be in Martha Ann's possession.  No living member of the Hellums family knew that the pictures existed until one of the Bishop girls contacted the family to see if they could identify who the people were.  All the Bishops say they are definitely not Bishops.  That leaves Hellums.
Annice believes that Martha Ann gave the pictures to her grandson, Brooks Bishop, because she felt that he looked somewhat like her grandfather, John Hellums. The Hellums family is really excited over these portraits and would appreciate any assistance in positively identifying them!
